Turba al-TakritiyyaDamascus, Syria
Turba al-Takritiyya is a mausoleum located along the main street of Salihiyya quarter of Damascus, to the northwest of the walled city. The building is the resting place of Taqi al-Din ibn al-Sahib al-Takriti, who died in 1299/698 AH. However, the building does not bear an inscription and has been dated based on art-historical and literary evidence to earlier in the century, and may have been constructed for a relative (also bearing the nisba Takriti).1
The tomb consists of a domed, rectangular burial chamber and a small prayer room to its east. Its muqarnas portal leads into a vaulted hallway that gives access to the two chambers. The interior is intricately decorated in Andalusian style with motifs similar to the ones found at the Alhambra. The exterior and interior walls are built of stone with carved decorations on window lintels.
