Nusa Idaman Musollah
Johor Baharu, Malaysia
Constrained by budget, the project for this 200-person Muslim prayer hall provides a landmark in its new neighbourhood. The building takes the form of a tropical shelter with perforated perimeter walls allowing cross-ventilation. It is entered from the south into a veranda-covered space. A garden is located in the centre. The adjacent prayer hall is flanked on both sides by male and female ablution areas. Materials include reinforced concrete, metal roof trusses and steel grilles. Brick walls and services are left exposed throughout. The project powers its LED lighting through photovoltaic panels providing power to the building.
