Tehran City Floor Redevelopment Programme
Tehrān, Iran
Tehran Municipality launched pilot projects to provide better pedestrian access, the most important of which addresses addresses Vali-e-Asr Street in the city centre. Water channels irrigating 50 year-old trees lining the avenue have been rebuilt, replacing concrete with compacted rubble, stone and sand constructed to avoid direct water contact with the base of trees. Coloured concrete pavement slabs and street furniture, ‘crystal stone’ and granite setts have been dry laid. A second project focused on the footway redevelopment of Hafiz Street, while a third project addresses ground surface treatment of Hasanabad Square, using similar materials and techniques. Following public request, the scheme has been extended providing disabled access, green space and street furniture.
