Guava House
Hemmathagama, Sri Lanka
The private retreat comprises a villa located on the apex of a hill and two accompanying chalets. The timber structures elevated above ground use materials and construction technologies responsive to tropical architecture. Guava House is entered through a double height hallway flanked by bedrooms, leading towards an open-plan kitchen, living and dining areas which open onto a timber deck with infinity pool beyond. The naturally ventilated buildings are constructed of load-bearing brick walls, concrete and steel. The inclusion of glass creates inside/outside spaces and timber logs support thatched veranda roofs. The design engages with surrounding views, retaining existing trees within the structures.
