Kasr-i Nehroz Boutique Hotel
Midyat, Türkiye
The project transforms an ancient church, combined with a smaller building nearby, into a boutique hotel. The simple monastic language of the architecture has been retained, with the main structural forms being retained. The main building has interior courtyards expanding around a chapel punctuated by two cylindrical observation towers. The second smaller 19th-century building is located 100 metres away. Rooms in the restored buildings are re-purposed to suit function, whilst new hotel accommodation is standardised. Durable non-porous limestone and other local materials and artisans have been used. A discreet lighting scheme ensures neighbours are not disturbed by light emitted from the building.
