Jati Asih House
Bekasi, Indonesia
The renovation and extension of this home in a suburban neighbourhood addresses bio-climatic issues and cost efficiency. The existing building has been extended due to the children growing up and seeking privacy, placing demand on space in the dwelling. Adult accommodation and living areas have been maintained on ground level, while children’s rooms have been located on the first-floor level. Natural cross-ventilation and consideration of sun-path have created an energy-efficient environment. Future recycling of materials has been considered. An example is the metal roof. The lower floor is constructed using a local double ‘kerawangen’ screen. Other materials include concrete, timber and glass.
