Polar Factory Mosque
Isfahan, Iran
Used daily by factory workers, the mosque is prominently placed on the factory site, on a central axis opposite the administrative complex and flanked by buildings on either side. The treatment of the space recalls a traditional Persian ‘chaharbagh’ design with the mosque as a central ‘koushk’ in the garden. The building is a rotated square in line with the main axis of the site and the entrance guides the procession of workers from the factory through the service core for ablutions and ultimately to the mosque. The building materials of brick, stone and tile echo the vernacular architecture of the region.
