CNDCM Clinic
Pune, India
This clinic was inspired by a client who requested that the architect think ‘outside the box’. It is composed of folded planes that create a sequence of interior and exterior spaces. The visual experience is porous - the antithesis of a monumental institution - designed to empower children and give them space to grow with dignity. The pedestrian ‘lanes’ echo those of nearby villages and support an environmental strategy in funnelling breezes and light into the interior. Solar water heaters and mist irrigation further reduce dependence on electricity. This humane and inviting centre aims to return self-respect and hope to patients and their families.
