Buguruslan Mosque
Buguruslan, Russian Federation
As a result of social and economic changes in Russia, the local population voiced their desires to have a Mosque built. In 1996 permission was granted and a vacant plot in the park was chosen. There were three stages to the project: (i) the mosque, (ii) a madrasa (Moslem school) and (iii) public services and amenities for public holidays. The mosque is clearly visible, rising 3.5m above the highway. The project has provided cultural enrichment for the local population.
