Pim's House and Ceramic Studio
Bangkok, Thailand
This house follows a philosophy of ‘minimum materials, maximum labour’. It was created by dismantling a 70-year-old wooden family house and recycling its components to build a new one in its place, with the funds saved on materials channelled towards vernacular craftsmen. The design and building processes were unified, with owners, architects and workers collaborating on site with the disassembled parts to produce the new house. Leftover material was used to create an additional ceramic studio. Unusually for middle-class homes in Bangkok, the house is naturally ventilated, while the recycling process has also eliminated the environmental costs associated with new materials.
