Horizon Hills Golf Clubhouse
Johor Baharu, Malaysia
Located at the halfway mark of a new golf course, the clubhouse will be the focal point of a larger development that will include housing, shops and a village square. Low and linear, the building follows the contours of the land and is divided into a public area with restaurant and ballroom, a golf wing, and a sports wing with gymnasium, café and pools, all accessed from a main lobby. The whole combines the modern with the tropical vernacular, using local natural materials such as volcano stone and balau timber, while the simple post-and beam structure supporting giant overhanging roofs could be quickly built by local contractors.
