Bon Ton Restaurant and Resort
Pulau Langkawi, Malaysia
These resorts began with the restaurant, which is a contemporary Asian building. Over several years eight Malay houses were locally sourced, documented and then rebuilt onsite to create an organic jigsaw of traditional timber guesthouses. The post and beam structures with Nipa leaf roofs are raised off the ground and use no nails in their construction. The adjacent Temple Tree Resort is more planned and was funded by government loan. Here nine villas sourced from across Malaysia present the multi-racial cultural heritage of the country. As well as offering highly personal holiday experiences, the resort supports staff members who are treated as family and funds an animal shelter.
