The Sunitskaia (Sunni) Mosque of Vladikavkaz was known as the Mukhtaroskaia Mosque before the Russian Revolution after its patron, oil baron Murtuza Mukhtarov of Baku, Azerbaijan. It was designed by Polish architect Iosif Ploshko, and its painted plaster interiors were created by F. I. Dolezhal.
