ITU Maritime Simulation Laboratory
Istanbul, Türkiye
Within this building students and navy personnel can confront - in the safety of a simulation - every potential hazard they might face at sea. Four different simulators (reproducing a ship's bridge, engine room, radar operations and wireless communications) are housed within a shell that refers to the image of a ship through its composite metal finishes and nautical details such as chrome handrails, wire balustrades and 'porthole' windows. The structure and walls are of earthquake-resistant reinforced concrete. The finishing materials are aluminium trapezoidal panels for the roof, and aluminium composite panels for the facades.
