Lighting Boutique
Dhaka, Bangladesh

A short-term lease, combined with the need for rapid construction, determined the choice of steel for this 'signature boutique' for a Belgium lighting company. The structure is conceived as a 'shamiana' (a tent used for light festivals), formed of folded plates of steel. A glazed facade is carefully oriented to the north and northeast to minimise heat gain and at the same time maximise street exposure. In the absence of experienced construction workers, the structure was assembled by shipyard welders more used to building barges. At the end of the lease, it will be dismantled and reassembled on another site.
