Sahra Apartment Building
Istanbul, Türkiye
An extended family originally from South-East Turkey bought a house built in 1972 in order to adapt it to its specific needs. The basement level and garden are designed as a 'hayat', a gathering area with shared living spaces, exercise areas and a pool. The ground floor is for the son, and is adapted for disabled use. The daughters live on the first floor, the parents on the second. An 'oriental room' is planned for the top floor. The reinforced concrete structure is earthquake-resistant, while the facades are alternately transparent (glass and aluminium) and opaque (timber cladding).
