Jami' al-Zahra'a
Cairo, Egypt
A square plan mosque/madrasa designed to receive up to 2300 worshippers around a central courtyard. The mosque is unique in that the main prayer hall can be converted into 12 classrooms by use of moveable partitions and desks that fold and recline into the floor. The structure is composed of 24 intersecting vaults supported by a reinforced concrete frame.
