Furusia Mosque
Rayyan, Qatar
Following a rectangular ground plan, the mosque is laid out symetrically, with the main entrance placed in the same central axis as the semi-sircular mihrab, which projects out on the external wall. The main entrance is flanked on the right by the ablution area and by a store room on the left. The courtyard precedes the prayer hall which is covered by three barrel-vaults (3.60 m wide each) running parallel to quibla wall. The round-shafted minaret is placed to the left of the main entrance and can be reached by an externalized, spiral staircase; this recalls traditional Qatari mosques and emphasizes the building's sculptural composition.
