Organized Self-help Housing
Rohia, Tunisia
The 13 houses built in the first phase of the programme are randomly scattered throughout farmland on the fringe of different villages. Each house consists of one or more multi-purpose rooms and a separate kitchen extension with its own access. The houses are characterized by simple stone facades and vaulted or flat roofs.
Two prototype units were developed: a rectangular vaulted room, measuring 3.5x6.5m, and another one measuring 3.5x8m. The construction system is bearing walls made of local stone, with vaulted roofs and flat roofs, covered with asbestos sheets.
