Army Barracks
Bahawalpur, Pakistan
The project was commissioned by the Pakistani Army to provide accommodation for 60 soldiers. The building is composed of an assembly of staggered, L-shaped units surmounted by large domes positioned in pairs at regular intervals. The overall layout is U-shaped, thus enclosing a large courtyard. An arcaded verandah covered by small domes runs around the inner perimeter of the court. The exterior facades are pierced by arched windows. Burnt bricks were used for the foundations and floors. Sun-dried bricks were used for bearing walls, vaults, and domes. Both mud and cement plaster were used to render the facades.
