32A Frekha Jabile (Instrumental Piece)
Maaelem El Hocein and Ensemble. Lute solo by Mohammed ben Heuniya
Recorded by Paul Bowles
At Meknès, Morocco
October 18, 1959
"The frekha is a piece of light instrumental music based on Andaluz themes. Since it is not considered to be art-music, it allows a fairly wide margin for invention and the incorporation of material from other genres. The lute solo at the opening is a case in point. It borrows heavily from the Egyptian manner of exploiting the oud. Mohammed ben Heuniya, is the oud soloist"
