Pearl Merchant's Residence Restoration
Arad, Bahrain
The restoration and reconstruction of a residence in which the family members including the children participated in design decisions. There were no preset working drawings. The project itself is a low-rise structure trapezoidal in plan with three inner courtyards around which the whole ensemble was organised and accentuated. With three separated entrances, this house is already unusual in plan. On the ground floor three distinctive blocks were organised around each one of the courtyards. The master bedroom, as well as another bedrooms have direct access to the courtyards. The centrally positioned family room is the core of the house and directs all the activities into the three distinctive blocks. The building materials were recycled from the site.
