Musa Ma'amari Castle
Beiteddine, Lebanon
A castle built specifically to contain a museum, tourist center, and residence. The castle contains the museum on two floors. Trapezoidal in plan, it is flanked by towers on its longest side. The first floor is an uninterrupted exhibition hall; the upper floor is divided into separate galleries. A residence is separated from the castle by an enclosed courtyard. The castle is constructed from local stone and surfaced with 6,500 hand carved tablets.
