Who Should Apply?
Institutional membership is intended for:
- educational or research institutions
- academic departments
- firms
- centers
- professional groups
Purpose of Institutional Membership
The purpose of Institutional membership is to display information about the institution and its activities.
Institutional membership offers complete freedom to institutional administrators to showcase the work of students, faculty research, publications, special projects, and sllows the sharing of resources, expertise, and experience.
Modules within an Institutional Space
Each Institutional space contains the following modules:
- Homepage
- About Us
- Calendar
- Digital Library (for collections of files, images, publications, and web pages)
- Courses and Syllabi
The institutional administrator may customize their space by choosing to turn "off" or make any of these modules invisible.
Creating an Institutional Space
Go to the ArchNet Institutional Spaces <http://archnet.org/institutions/> and click on "Apply for Institutional Membership."

An introductory screen will be displayed describing who may apply for institutional membership, and stating that the person who applies for institutional membership will be considered the primary administrator and will take full legal responsibility for the space and its contents.
If you agree, click on the "I agree" button. (See below.)

Institutional Name and Contact Information:
Fill in the text boxes with the group name, a short name (this is used to create a directory), and contact information. (For the full name, please do not use abbreviations. And if you are a university department, please list the name of the university first. For example: American University of Beirut, Department of Architecture and Design.)
Click on the "Submit" button at the bottom when you are done. (See below.)

Add Administrators:
The person who requests the group workspace will be considered the primary administrator. Other administrators can be added by the administrator by typing in the person's last name or email. Note: Any administrator must an ArchNet member.
Click on the "Search" button. See below.
Select the person and he/she will be added to the list of administrators.
When all the administrators have been designated, click on the "Submit Application" button at the bottom of the screen. (See below.)

Confirm Application:
The screen will display the information you have submitted.
If it is incorrect, click on the "Edit" button and correct. If the information is correct, click on the "Confirm" button.
Read and Sign Legal Statement:
Read the legal Agreement carefully. If you accept them, click on the "I agree" button at the bottom of the statement. (See example below.)

Please print the PDF version of this form, have the head of your institution (dean, president, department head, etc.) sign it, and then fax or mail the form to: Shiraz Allibhai, ArchNet, Room 10-322, MIT, 77 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge MA 02139, USA
When the form has been signed by both parties, and received by the ArchNet office, the Institutional space can be approved.
After clicking on the "I agree" button, you will see a screen saying that your application has been received. The ArchNet Administrator will contact you if there are questions, and you will be notified when the space has been approved.

While you are waiting for your Institutional space to be approved, you can begin preparing the material that you will upload to your space. Please see Managing the Institutional Space for more information.

ArchNet takes copyright issues very seriously and does not knowingly publish any material that we do not own or have permission to use. We expect Institutional Members to do the same. This means that all images, texts, publications, drawings, etc. posted within the Institutional space must have the explicit and written permission of the owner or creator. You may use copies of the standard permission form used by ArchNet. Copies of signed permissions forms should be mailed or faxed to the ArchNet office at MIT.
