Abstract

Since the beginning of cinema introduction, architecture was one of the most important elements that affected film scenes. Film and architecture are two arts depending on visual effects and existing in the dimension of time and movement. This knowledge makes directors ask architects to build their film scenes so as to appear real and alive.
The research improves this connection between the two arts and gives examples from the Hollywood, European and Arabian cinemas. The research discusses the different forms of architecture in film concentrating on contemporary space, and introducing brief chapter about filmmaking techniques. Also, it introduces the local notion of architects which confirms the influence of film on their mentality.
The research analyzes and explores the local architects' notion of film effect on the contemporary architecture by analyzing a study case of contemporary film and a questionnaire survey.
The research is divided into four chapters. The first presents historical background of the relation between film and architecture in the American, European and Arabian cinemas. The second chapter defines cinema techniques which are very important in creating films and affecting space architecture. The third chapter discusses three domains of architecture in film focusing on the first domain (film effect on architecture space). The fourth chapter analyzes space in a contemporary film and presents some of the local notions that film affects their thought. At the end, the research presents brief conclusion and recommended advice to increase the local awareness of this subject and discuss the hypothesis.
