Abstract

This study serves as the first Master's thesis discussing the subject of Interior Design; in Jordan. The main objective of this research is to study the relationship between Architecture and Interior Design. The problem discussed in this research is about the separation that exists in designing the interior and the exterior.
To prove this proposition that the interior design is a layer of architecture; first, I have executed a literature review, and studied the elements of interior space explaining how they are part of architecture too. Second, an analysis was conducted to show that the real and true meaning of architecture is that which includes the interior in its definition. Third, designing a 'good architecture' will improve the quality of the vitality of architecture, which will improve in return the quality of life for users.
Discussing this problem with local and international architects proved the need to have the interior and the exterior coherent. The theoretical foundation and knowledge can prevent the meaningless demands of the client and can enlighten the architect with a wide range of problems.
This research is concluded by making a number of recommendations to help alleviate the problems facing the Interior Design. We need to train and educate new architects on the importance of understanding the totality of architecture. We are on the right track, but more researches and studies are needed. We also need to raise public awareness by showing the importance of designing the interior and by giving solutions that are economically appealing.
