Abstract

Tourism is considered the industry of our time. This industry has its advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, it is necessary to contribute from the architectural and urban aspects to defining and clarifying this industry. First and foremost, it is necessary to give a comprehensive and sufficient database about the tourism phenomenon and its origin. This was the aim of the first chapters of this study. This can be done by giving a historical background emanation from the time sequence of the tourism phenomenon and its development and to get acquainted with the most important features of this phenomenon.
From the architectural and urban aspect, tourism is effected by and affects the infrastructure of urban areas, whether in the form of roads, water and
Wastewater network or electricity ...etc.
This study aims also to identify the tourism environment and the role of tourism planning In achieving sustainable tourism development. The study aims further to define the tourism characteristic and components of tourism in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to be cognizant with the most significant tourism patterns in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Furthermore, the study aims to know the internal tourism in Saudi Arabia and the role of current trends in relying on internal tourists and to reach a set of facts related to internal tourism in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the effect of current and future tourism areas on urban design and trends, particularly at the internal tourism domain.
The research has used the descriptive and analytical method for the tourism phenomenon in general and the internal tourism in Saudi Arabia in particular.
The study was concluded by a number of results and recommendations, most important of these is introducing tourism planner and designer in an advanced stage of preparing structural and detailed drawings of urban areas to ensure integration of all activities. This is in addition to listing tourism plans within the future plans of urban areas, knowing their main components and trying to support and highlight them and limiting the most important of their disadvantages so as to avoid them and find suitable solution therefore.
