Abstract

This research deals with the impact of local culture on shaping the architectural identity. It aims at showing the relationship between people's culture, and their perception of the environment, shaping their architecture and their local identity. This research also aims at discussing how people can maintain external effects in order to adjust time, place and local culture in special architectural outlook. This study tests local urban Jordanian architecture and its role in shaping spatial a local identity. Cultural relationship between people and their architectural environment is also examined. General conclusions and recommendations are drawn so as to help in shaping spatial future local architectural identity in Jordan.
A theoretical background has been provided to maintain the identification of identity, architectural identity and local architectural identity. The importance of searching for local architectural identity has been clarified through the role of community participation culture and perception. The architectural stages of the establishment of contemporary and local architectural thoughts in order to identify a local urbanized architecture in Jordan has been given in chapter three. It has also dealt with relationship between residential architecture and local spatial identity. The
identification of architectural criticism and its role in architectural practice also has been discussed. The application of criticism on selected projects
designed by Jordanian contemporary architects have been studied in chapter four. Residential architecture have been examined by using academic methods of criticism.
Chapter five has presented some conclusions and recommendations which may help in shaping spatial local architectural identity.
