Abstract:
The conservation and interpretation of cultural heritage is important for fostering a sense of continuity between distant and recent pasts among the
community. This research recommends procedures for the identification and evaluation of historical and cultural resources of Jordan for the purpose of developing a grading system for the cultural heritage in the country. Organizing for conservation (conservation methods) depends on several interrelated steps including identification, significance evaluation, and grading of resources. In addition, conservation methods include awareness, advocacy, coordination, and implementation of different conservation treatments.
Historic conservation in Jordan is still in its early stages. Each setting has its own privacy, so any process or philosophy should be sensitive to the local culture and context. Triangulation enables to conduct field inquiry using different case studies from different geographical and cultural contexts. Information collected from an intensive survey of the (116) historical and cultural resources at historic core of Salt and the conservation questionnaire compromises an integral part of the data.
In addition the research investigated the mechanism of how to integrate this grading system into a Jordanian national register which could be distributed to governmental agencies, municipalities and institutions to be used as a planning tool. |
