Fatemeh, Interesting point about privacy. In fact the orginal european cultures (both the Greek and the Roman)had the same view of both privacy and division between male and female parts of the home.

This situation existed all over europe up to about the 19th centuary and even into the early 20th centuary when the rise in wealth of the urban working classes coupled with technology in the home finally blurred and then broke the division.

I can remember from my youth (1960s -70s) that in Britain many working class people still had the front room of the home set aside and used only for entertaining guests. Gradually though this room evolved (with the introduction of TV) into a leisure room for the family.

thank you fatemeh and Frank.
I should correct my question and explain it more.suggest thet a forign(western)architect was invited to design a project in an Islamic Contry, what should He(she) do to have a cultural view in such conditions?

Hamid, He or she should respect the fact that there are differences between cultures and respect the differences in culture and if necessary learn about the differences and the need for differences. :)))

I always recommend these books that will help you alot and keep your culture shock under control ;)

"Culture and Customs of the Arab Gulf States (Culture and Customs of the World) by Rebecca Torstrick"

There are many books for each region of the Middle East and thats my best advice.

Hi Hamid Shayan, and the others.
I am sure that the need is very clear if Architect is designing a house/apartment. The solution is simply to adpt the concept with local architect, or tries to read about/study the spatial behavior of the locals. Other than house/apartment design, other projects (i.e. airports, hospitals, schools, office buildings, etc. have the same requirements every where in the world.
In general the good architect always must understand the users culture as a requirement for good design.
